Exciting Disruptors

Will grant funding increase smart farming?

A new £40 million grants scheme for investment in farm technology has been announced to help livestock, dairy, arable and horticultural farmers improve farm productivity through investing in new technology

Mr Gove said: "This new funding is a wonderful opportunity for our farmers and food processors to invest in the technology they need to boost productivity, competition and, of course, sustainability”

Will the opportunity be exploited and how successful will it actually be?

On the topic of sustainability, I see that Stott Farm (the famous farm between the carriageways on the M62 in Yorkshire!) is to become part of Yorkshire Water's 'Beyond Nature' initiative, with a focus on sustainability and restoration of surrounding peatland.

It will be interesting to see whether sustainability remains at the forefront of people's minds when productivity is also an aim, particular with the possibility of subsidy changes post brexit.
